As joint founder of the society in 2005, Alastair Giles acts as secretary to the society which aims to promote both the marketing discipline within, publishing & bookselling, and helping to expand the market generally. Almost every publisher and book retailer are members.

6 meetings take place each year offering any practitioner insights into current campaigns and a share of the planning of future campaigns to better the industry.

The '50 Books You Must Read' campaigns came directly from this society.

In addition, submissions are requested from publishers and booksellers for Quarterly Marketing awards. The winners of which are automatically shortlisted for the Guardian Marketing Campaign of the Year at the British Book Industry Awards.
