The Wainwright Prize

Key Information

Now in its 7th year, The much-loved Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing, in association with The National Trust, is awarded annually to the book which most successfully inspires readers to explore the outdoors and to nurture a respect for the natural world. In 2020, we have added an additional prize for writing on global conservation, to ensure The Wainwright Prize recognises the restorative role that nature plays and how urgently we need to protect it.

Run by Agile, in partnership with Frances Lincoln Publishers and the Wainwright Estate, as well as The National Trust & BBC Countryfilethe, the prize has grown in popularity and prestige year after year, with the annual ceremony held at Countryfile Live Festival each August. Our esteemed judges include TV Presenters Julia Bradbury & Charlotte Smith, wildlife expert and conservationist Chris Packham and CEO of The Wildlife Trusts Craig Bennett.

With the 2020 shortlist launch video securing over 30,000 views on twitter in the first few hours, and 100’s of bookshops curating beautiful displays across the country, the prize continues to go from strength to strength, with exciting plans in store for 2021 to be the biggest & best year to date!
