After an exciting online campaign and vote with six shortlisted bloggers, NB Magazine are delighted to announce the two winners of the NB Book Blogger’s Choice Award 2020: the winning blogger and the winning book, which automatically becomes NB’s 2020 Book of the Year!
The winning blogger of the NB Book Blogger’s Choice Award is… Amanda Chatterton at Bookish Chat!
With that in mind, the winning book that was championed by Amanda which automatically becomes NB’s 2020 Book of the Year is… Things in Jars by Jess Kidd.
Published in hardback on 4th April 2019 and in paperback on 2nd January 2020 by Canongate Books, Things in Jars is set in London, 1863, and follows Bridie Devine, the finest female detective of her age as she takes on her toughest case yet – to locate the missing Christabel Berwick who has been kidnapped.
In her review, Amanda described Things in Jars as “sublime” and said, “I have gone on record as saying that this book is my only ever six star read – a bold statement but entirely true!” Our voters were convinced by her passionate and enthusiastic review, as they went on to name her as our NB Book Blogger’s Choice Award winner!
The six bloggers worked hard on their online vote campaigns and truly engaged in the spirit of the award! The other six bloggers consisted of: Kelly Lacey at Love Books Group who supported The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea; Eric Karl Anderson at Lonesome Reader; who championed Ducks, Newburyport by Lucy Ellmann; Sukhy Cooke at Mrs. Cooke’s Books, who celebrated The Familiars by Stacey Halls; Laura Roach at Roachie’s Reviews, who championed My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite; and Haley Flores at The Caffeinated Reader, who supported The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri.
As winner, Amanda now joins NB as a frequent reviewer and is issued her very own article in NB’s next issue due out in the summer. Finally, she also receives a trophy for her efforts, along with Jess Kidd.
Jess Kidd, author of Things in Jars and NB’s 2020 Book of the Year, said: ‘I am thrilled that Amanda has won the first NB Magazine Book Bloggers’ Book Choice Award championing Things in Jars. Amanda is a wonderful reviewer and a passionate supporter of new voices in fiction and I’m so proud she chose my book.’
